I have just purchased a new home (YEA!!!!) However this home doubles my commute, so I have decided to make the best of it by publishing a weekly segment called podcast of the week. I have been a big fan of podcasts. I was even big on the podcast’s grandfather, the old educational cassette tape series (I still have a box that I found moving with all of the cases). As you can imagine, I now have plenty of time to do research on podcasts as I drive.
I think the frist swing at this should be based on my favorite podcast, Freakonomics. I have listen to every episode and love them. Their tag line is, “the hidden side of everything”. They are two guys named Steven and Stephen. One is an economist and the other is a journalist. Together they use data to answer complex questions.
They took on the topic of the driverless car. Now this is something that I am very interested in (1) because I am a huge automation nerd and (b) because I think this type of automation is going to solve huge problems (and 3/c – I think it’s cool and Star Wars‘ like). I write exclusively about automation helping people become more productive and saving time and getting rid of steps in processes because they are an Inconvenience or a pain. The driverless car will solve problems like drinking and driving, falling asleep at the wheel and will have positive impact on road rage and tailgating (not at the ball game) and being able to threaten your kids in the back seat better… just kidding about the last one.
Companies like Google are investing a lot of time and effort into driverless technology. Listen to the podcast to get more information, and as always I would love to know what you think.
